At Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), we offer a challenging two-year graduate programme in electrical engineering.
NIE’s graduate recruitment process presents an exciting opportunity to join a large fast moving, customer-focused organisation providing excellent career prospects. Electrical Engineering graduates, following an initial 2 year training programme, are provided with the opportunity to contribute significantly to a wide range of power engineering projects.
These projects present exciting opportunities to broaden and develop very valuable and relevant experience in the transmission and distribution of electricity.
We have opportunities for graduate electrical engineers who have recently completed or who will be completing an honours degree in electrical and electronic engineering or related discipline and have or expect to achieve a minimum 2:2 classification. Successful candidates must be available to commence employment in summer 2013.

A starting salary of £25,000 and on the successful completion of the two year graduate programme, employees can expect to earn circa £29,000

What we are looking for
In order to be eligible to apply you must demonstrate how you meet the selection criteria. You should give specific examples which clearly demonstrates your ability to meet each criteria (Academic and/or workplace examples can be used).
Selection criteria

Have recently achieved or be expected to achieve a minimum second class honours (lower division) degree in electrical and electronic engineering or related subject

Be highly motivated with a positive attitude

Be able to demonstrate a practical understanding of electricity networks including network planning, design, construction and maintenance, and a practical understanding of overhead lines, underground cables, substation plant, and protection and control systems

Possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills

Be able to demonstrate the ability to adapt to the rapidly changing demands of our business

Possess strong IT skills and be able to demonstrate proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite

Be proactive and capable of demonstrating initiative

Have an analytical and enquiring mind with strong attention to detail

Be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines

It is desirable to demonstrate ability with data management and analysis software (MATLAB or similar) and programming skills
