The Team Research & Development (R&D) Programme aims to give young people an insight into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) research and development in a ‘real’ industry context.

The project aims to increase the number of young people choosing science and engineering as a career and targets those with leadership potential.

Teams of four high calibre, motivated students work on a real research and development problem, set by us.  With assistance from our engineers the students work over a period of 5 months to develop a solution to the problem. This is done by carrying out on-site visits, working as a team in school and taking part in a residential workshop at Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster

Teams have to produce an industrial quality report outlining their work and conclusions.  The programme ends with an exhibition and presentation day, when teams display their projects and present their work to a panel of experts.

Some teams will get the opportunity to enter their project in the Sentinus Young Innovators Competition with cash prizes and the chance to win a trip to Intel ISEF, the world's largest pre-college Science and Engineering Fair.
