Generation connection application
To apply for a large scale connection please:

register here to receive a generation connection application pack by email.

return the generator questionnaire together with a copy of the generation planning permission in PDF format.
What happens once you've submitted your application?

Once we've received your application we will consider the proposal and implications for connection.

NIE will issue you with formal terms and conditions for connecting the Generator, where applicable this will include a quotation for costs.

The applicant formally accepts Terms & Conditions for Connection and pays NIE connection charge if applicable.

On receipt of acceptance and payment NIE initiates any legalities required including wayleave approval, cable easments, substation lease and planning permission.

Once these have been obtained in full and a payment has been received the construction work can be scheduled. NIE do not carry out any further work if the terms and conditions for connection are not received.

NIE then provides you with a Generator Connection Agreement and a blank copy of the embedded generation test record (Schedule 1A).

The applicant should advise NIE of the Generator’s Trading arrangements.

NIE will finalise/agree trading arrangements with the applicant including installation of metering and provision of a MPRN number, if required.

The applicant should return signed and witnessed connection agreement. Applicant carries out tests and provide NIE with signed certification (10 working days notice required if test require the generator to be paralleled with the NIE Network).

NIE countersigns Generator Agreement and returns it to the applicant

Once the generator agreement is in place the generator can be paralleled with NIE’s network.
