Indicative costs
Case 1: Single phase connection for generation capacity up to 20kW
Construction work required for connections up to 20kW:
-
Erect a pole-mounted transformer on an existing pole and lay up to 20 metres of service cable to the meter box.
-
This case assumes that there is an existing 11kV single phase overhead line adjacent to proposed generator connection point.
-
Typical cost is £5,000 - £6,000

Case 2: Three phase supply for generation capacity up to 150kW
Construction work required for a connection of up to 150kW:
-
Erect a three phase pole-mounted transformer on an existing pole and lay up to 20 metres of three phase service cable to the meter box.
-
This case assumes that there is an existing three phase overhead line adjacent to proposed generator connection point.
-
Typical connection costs are:
-
£20,000 - generator capacity 50-99kW
-
£40,000 - generation capacity 100-150kW (incl SCADA)

Case 3: Three phase supply for generation capacity greater than 150kW
Construction work required for connections greater than 150kW:
-
Installation of a ground mounted substation.
-
This case assumes that there is an existing three phase overhead line adjacent to proposed generator connection point and that the substation is located 20 metres from the existing overhead network. Please note that SCADA is required on any generators of 100kW or above.
-
Typical cost is £70,000 (incl SCADA).

Case 4: Converting 11kV single phase line to three phase or building a new three phase overhead line
-
This estimate applies to converting a single phase line to three phase or building a new three phase overhead line only. It does not include the costs of the transformer or service cable.
-
Typical cost is £25,000 - £30,000 per kilometre.
