Connect your home

Residential connectionsAre you building a new house?  If so you need to plan ahead for your electricity connection.

Guidance on when and how to apply can be found by downloading a domestic connection application pack (305 kB PDF format) [link opens in a new window].

We can only issue a quotation after we have received a completed application form and the relevant supporting information. A detailed check list of the information we require is included on the application form.

As part of the connection process, we may have to obtain permission from third parties to meet your requirements.  For example:

  • Formal permission from landowners to place or move NIE equipment on their land.
  • Planning permission from DRD Planning Service, which is a separate form of permission unconnected to planning approval for your development.
  • Permission from DRD Roads Service to carry out work on public roadways.

Having to seek and get these permissions granted can in some instances add an extra nine months to the overall connection process.

Get the process started now and find out how to apply.

If you want to move your meter or are planning to build an extension that requires an alteration to your existing incoming supply, read our alteration section.
