How to apply for a domestic connection

You will need to follow these three steps to apply.

Step 1

Download our domestic connection application pack (305 kB PDF format) [link opens in a new window] or contact our helpline on 08457 643643 to have an application pack sent to you.

Step 2

Read and complete the form/s and gather all the necessary supporting documentation. This includes:

A site location map scaled to 1:2500
A site plan scaled to 1:500
Floor plan showing proposed meter position

We need to understand the amount of electricity your new home will need - your Maximum Import Capacity (MIC). You may need to get help from your electrical contractor and your chosen electricity supplier to fill in parts of the form. It is important that you fill in the details accurately.

Step 3

Send in your completed pack to your nearest NIE depot [43kB PDF].

How to cut costs

Locating your meter position as close as possible to our incoming service connection will reduce the cable length and the cost of your connection.

You may be able to carry out the excavation and reinstatement of cable trenches in private property which helps keep costs down.
