Connect commercial units, housing developments and apartments

Are you planning to build a development of houses, apartments or commercial units? If so you need to plan well in advance for the electricity connection and we strongly advise developers to make contact with us at an early stage in any development. An early application helps a timely connection.

We offer specific connection and metering arrangements depending on the type of development you are planning. Typically developments fall into 3 broad categories.

Housing develpments of 2 or more dwellings with individually serviced properties.
Apartments blocks with communal meter positions.
Business units with individual serviced properties or communal meter positions (or a mix of both)

One of the main areas for discussion with us will be the layout of your site. There are many distinct factors that decide where mains or individual service connections can be provided. As part of the connection process, we may have to obtain permission from third parties to meet your requirements. These are things such as:

Formal permission from landowners to place or move NIE equipment on their land.
Planning permission from DRD Planning Service, which is a separate form of permission unconnected to planning approval for your development.
Permission from DRD Roads Service to carry out work on public roadways

Having to seek and get these permissions granted can in some instances add an extra nine months to the overall connection process.
