Electric cars

Electric cars are currently available to buy in Northern Ireland. They do not run on petrol or diesel but through a battery that can be charged up at electric charge points. 

Not only will electric cars benefit the environment by reducing carbon emissions but they are cheaper to run compared to petrol or diesel cars.

At NIE we are part of the ecar project which is bringing electric vehicle charging points to Northern Ireland. During 2011-2013 this pilot project will install three types of charging points:

1. Public charge points including rapid charge points
2. Workplace charging points
3. Home charging points

The public charging points will be installed in a number of towns and cities across the region.
