How can a Smart Meter save me money?

A Smart Meter alone will not save you money but it will show you how much electricity you are using and this will allow you to adjust the times you use electrical appliances and make smarter energy usage choices to save you money.

When does the trial start?

The trial will begin in 2012 and will last up to two years.

Why is the trial only in this area?

This is the first trial in Northern Ireland and we hope to roll it out to other areas in the future. The Coleraine area has been selected from a number of possible locations where the electricity usage rises sharply on weekdays between 4pm and 7pm.

I've signed up to the trial what happens next?

We will contact you soon to arrange an appointment to change your existing meter to a new Smart meter. During the first year we will use the Smart Meter to gather usage data so you won't be asked to do anything else.

In the second year we will provide the majority of customers with the In-home electricity display and encourage you to shift the times when you do certain things, for example when you use your wahing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher.
