How we plan work

At Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), we have teams of engineers and lines people working on our network everyday. They maintain, upgrade and extend our network to connect new homes and businesses.

We sometimes temporarily cut electricity supply to parts of our network to enable our teams to work safely. In some circumstances this will leave groups of customers without power for a short period.

We will notify you when any planned work will affect your home or business.

Why do we interrupt your electricity?

  • To maintain and refurbish over 45,000 kilometres of overhead lines and underground cables
  • To connect new customers, both domestic and business, to the network
