Safety & Environment

Northern Ireland’s electricity network is all around us. It spans the country on a network of pylons, substations, poles, overhead lines and underground cables, delivering power to customers.

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) designs and maintains the electricity distribution network so that normally, all dangerous parts are out of reach of people. However, during some activities people can find themselves at risk of injury or death from electricity equipment.

The safety of the general public, employees and environment is paramount to us and this section will highlight the dangers of electricity and explain how to avoid them.
