NIE and the environment

At Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) we are proud of our environmental track record and work hard to ensure that the company’s impact on the environment is minimised.

As a major infrastructure owner and developer within Northern Ireland, we continually develop our environmental management system (EMS) to ensure compliance with all current legislation and industry best practice.

Our EMS has benefited from our continual certification to the internationally recognised ISO14001 Standard for over a decade. We will aim to ensure our high standards achieved within this certification are maintained in carrying out our work.

Environmental excellence makes good business sense. Reducing our carbon footprint and generated wastes, whilst increasing the efficiency of our fleet and buildings provides both environmental and financial reward.

We have a dedicated Environment Officer who regularly monitors and evaluates the company’s performance against these targets and within our EMS. Read more about our policy statements.
