Tyrone to Cavan Interconnector

EirGrid and Northern Ireland Electricity are pleased to announce a new North-South interconnector, which will further connect the electricity systems of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The Tyrone to Cavan interconnector will help reduce network operating costs and strengthen electricity supply on both power systems. It will also support greater competition in the electricity market and facilitate more electricity generated from renewable sources being brought onto the system.

Pylon photoPublic Consultation

In October 2007 Northern Ireland Electricity hosted a week of Information Days in Armagh, inviting over 950 local residents who live within a one kilometre radius of the proposed interconnector route.

NIE is continuing to consult with local residents, elected representatives and interested parties to ensure everyone is aware of the proposals. Anyone who considers they should have been consulted about the project but as yet have not, should contact NIE on 08457 643 643.
