Tyrone to Cavan InterconnectorEirGrid and Northern Ireland Electricity are pleased to announce a new North-South interconnector, which will further connect the electricity systems of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The Tyrone to Cavan interconnector will help reduce network operating costs and strengthen electricity supply on both power systems. It will also support greater competition in the electricity market and facilitate more electricity generated from renewable sources being brought onto the system.
NIE is continuing to consult with local residents, elected representatives and interested parties to ensure everyone is aware of the proposals. Anyone who considers they should have been consulted about the project but as yet have not, should contact NIE on 08457 643 643. As part of the Interconnector’s Environmental Impact Assessment, Eirgrid and NIE have commissioned a number of reports into the practicality, cost and technical feasibility of placing the interconnector underground. The first of these reports, Comparison of High Voltage Transmission Options Report by PB Power, is now available. Related documents
