Kilkeel Businesses Get Switched On Over Lunch
03/07/2007
Many local business people turned out at Kilkeel’s Kilmorey Arms Hotel recently to hear from Northern Ireland Electricity how they could cut energy costs.
The lunch briefing, which was held by Kilkeel Chamber of Commerce and Northern Ireland Electricity, had the theme ‘Three Steps to Lower Energy Bills’.
Mary Tremlett, President of Kilkeel Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the turnout, she said: “I’m delighted to be here this afternoon. It’s important to make Kilkeel businesses aware of the rising costs and overheads they face daily. However, more importantly I have invited NIE’s Alison Moore and Angeline Sloan to highlight the key areas were businesses can be more energy efficient.”
NIE’s Business Support Manager Alison Moore briefed the attendees on how to reduce their energy bills. She said: “The great turnout shows that Kilkeel business people are switched onto reducing energy use and costs. NIE is very keen to help businesses do this. As we are a regulated business, NIE does not make more money by selling more electricity. Similarly, it doesn’t pay for local business people to be using more energy than necessary.”
NIE’s Angeline Sloan continued with the briefing by explaining how being on the right NIE tariff and paying by direct debit can reduce energy bills. The feedback from the event was excellent. All attendees found the talk very informative and the most interesting areas for them included the energy saving tips and the various rates that NIE offer to customers.
There are simple things that all businesses can do to help reduce electricity bills. Step one is to make sure businesses are on the best NIE tariff for them, giving them the best deal.
Step two is switch to direct debit. All NIE Business Energy customers get 4% discount when they pay their electricity bill by direct debit. On average, the saving will pay for two weeks worth of electricity every year. Monthly-billed NIE business customers get 3% discount.
Lastly, using energy efficiently will help reduce costs and NIE has a number of grant-aided schemes for businesses to help introduce energy efficiency measures.
If you would like to sign up to NIE’s direct debit or request a free tariff check, call NIE on 08457 455 455 (business lines open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).
