Connection for small scale generation
There are two options available for customers registering for single generator connections in the range of 6.6 kW to 20 kW single phase and 21 kW to 5 MW three phase:
Commission a feasibility study
A feasibility study is an optional study providing indicative costs for your generation connection to help you to develop your own business plan. This is typically carried out before you make a formal application to DOE Planning Service to obtain approval for your generation scheme.
The study indicates the current capacity available, details of the work required to provide connection, connection voltage level and the connection point to the NIE Network.
Please note that a feasibility study does not reserve network capacity for a particular project. NIE cannot guarantee that a connection will be available when a formal application for network connection and capacity study is made.

Commission a network connection and capacity study
A network connection and capacity study is a full application process offered to customers who have obtained all permissions, including planning permission or equivalent for tidal or hydro generation, at the date of connection application.
